Billy Michael Harris, 52, of Grenada, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at Grenada
Lake Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, at
National Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, at National
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.
Billy was born on July 25, 1959, in Grenada to Billy Lee and Hazel Simmons
Harris. He was a member of Hardy Baptist Church and retired as a knit technician from
Pennaco.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Michael Harris.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Carol Hamilton Harris of Grenada; his
parents, Billy Lee and Hazel Harris of Grenada; two brothers, Jimmy Harris and Bro. Rickey
Harris and one sister, Aletha Weir all of Grenada.
Bro. James Melton, Bro. Rickey Harris and Father Martin Ruane will be
officiating the services with Keith Harris, Kevin Harris, Justin Harris, Jonathan Harris,
Matthew Bell and Jeremy Hamilton serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will
be Keith Hayes, Harold Pigg, Fred Chapman and Bo Hood.

Josephine Marascalco, age 92,
peacefully passed on Friday, December 9, 2011 in her home with her children by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Giovanni and Angela Maniscalco, her beloved
husband Salvatore "Sam L" Marascalco and baby son Louis. She is survived by five
children: Anna Bonomo and husband Joseph; Louis J. Marascalco and wife Rosaria; John
Marascalco and wife Mary; Mary Kirn and husband Theodore all of New Orleans, LA and
Angelina Coco and husband Salvatore of Katy, TX; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren
and 1 great-great-grand-child; and four siblings: Salvatrice Provenza and husband Charlie
of New York; Luisa Basile and husband Dominick of New Jersey; Salvatore Maniscalco and
wife Sarina of Sicily; Caterina Guttadura and late husband Gioacchino of Italy. Preceded
in death by 6 siblings: Joe John Marascalco and Charlie John Marascalco of MS; Mary
Sketteno of New Orleans; Rosario Manis-calco of NY; Angela Matassa of CA; Francesca Bianca
of Sicily. She was born in Grenada, MS on March 8, 1919 and moved to Cefalu, Sicily as an
infant and returned back to Grenada in her late 20's. She has been a resident of New
Orleans for 40 years. The family wishes to thank the caregivers of Central Home Health and
Annabelle Landesman for their loving care. Relatives and friends of the family are invited
to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Peters Catholic Church in Grenada, MS on Monday,
December 12, 2011 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Interment to follow
at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada, MS.
Melissa Spencer Garrett
Melissa Spencer Garrett, 48, of Cleveland, Miss., formerly of Philipp, died
Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, in a car accident in Grenada County. Visitation will be held from 9
to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Grenada. Funeral
services will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church. Committal services
will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Isadore Cemetery in Lake Village, Ark.
Melissa was born on July 25, 1963, in Greenville to Treadwell and Lucille
Casali Spencer. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Melissa was employed as a
registered pharmacist. While in pharmacy school, Melissa was inducted into the Rho Chi
Society which is the Academic Honor Society in Pharmacy.
Melissa was preceded in death by her sister, Stephanie Spencer Long.
Survivors include one daughter, Peyton Garrett; one son, Lucas Garrett; her
parents, Treadwell and Lucille Spencer; one niece, Olivia Pippin; and two nephews,
Stephen Richardson and his wife, Melissa, and Spencer Richardson and his wife, Mary
Jennifer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to St. Peters Catholic Church
in Grenada.

James McRae Criss
Mr. James
McRae Criss, 77, of Grenada, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at his residence. He was born on
Dec. 28, 1933, in Coffeeville to Francis and Julia McRae Criss.
Mr. Criss was a graduate of University of Mississippi where he
received his degree in law. He was a retired CPA and was active in the Grenada Fine Arts
Playhouse where he played Al Jolson in the Ice Cream
Follies. Mr. Criss was past President of Grenada Kiwanis Club and served as
City and County Attorney for Grenada. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic
Church.
Visitation was Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at
Garner-Harper Funeral Home. Funeral services were Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 10 a.m., at
St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Martin Ruane officiating. Interment followed
at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Criss Jr., Don Tartt Jr., John Criss Jr., Todd
Alan McDonald, Johnny Liberto, and Jimmy Gardello.
Mr. Criss is survived by his two daughters, Julia Tartt of Grenada
and Janie Criss of Jackson; a son, Jim Criss Jr. of Marietta Ga.; two grandchildren, Alex
Criss and Don Tartt Jr.; and two brothers, Francis Criss of Corinth and Bob Criss of
Auburn, Ala. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John Criss.

Funeral services for Charlie J. Marascalco, 93, of Grenada, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peters Catholic Church. Mr. Marascalco died Tuesday evening, Nov. 23, 2010 at Providence Assisted Living.
He was born June 24, 1917, to Vincent and Virginia Fertitta Marascalco.
Over the last few years, he has been under the wonderful care of Graceland and Providence Assisted Living.
He owned and operated Marascalco Dry Goods for 68 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Marascalco was predeceased by two sisters, Mary V. Marascalco and Donie Liberto; and three brothers, Sam P., Lewis, and Joe Marascalco.
Mr. Marascalco is survived by two brothers, Pete Marascalco of Grenada and John Marascalco of Hollywood; one sister, Rose Marascalco of Memphis;
and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and greatnephews.

John O. Brock
Rev. John Ohleyer Brock died July 5, at his home in Natchez. Born in Cleveland, Miss., on March 25, 1937, Fr. Brock grew up in Greenwood. After completing his seminary studies at St. Joseph Seminary in St. Benedict, La., and the North American College in Rome, Italy, Fr. Brock was ordained to the Catholic priesthood on Dec. 19, 1962, in Rome.
For 47 years Fr. Brock served the Catholic faithful of Mississippi in churches in Hattiesburg, Jackson, Pearl, Greenville, Natchez, Meadville, Grenada and Charleston. He officially retired in September 2005, but continued to assist with sacramental ministry in various parishes. In addition to his pastoral work in parishes, Fr. Brock was a longtime member of the faculty at St. Joseph High School in Jackson. He was a highly revered Latin teacher and band director whose classroom presence commanded respect from his students. Fr. Brock believed one of the most important things a person could have was a balanced liberal arts education rooted in the classics and the arts.
Fr. Brock was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. and Leila Mae Ohleyer Brock and two brothers, Charles and David Brock. He is survived by his sister, Rosemary Chaloult and her husband, Angelo, of Gulfport.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 12th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at St. Mary Basilica in Natchez followed by a Wake Service. Bishop Joseph N. Latino will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13th in the Basilica. Interment will be 1 p.m. in Greenwood Odd Fellows Cemetery on Wednesday, July 14.

Memorial services for
Constance Ann Sherick Connie Fariss, 49, of Coffeeville, were at 11 a.m.

Mrs. Fariss died March 25, 2010, from injuries sustained in a
motor vehicle accident in Holmes County.
She was born Sept. 29, 1960, to the late Charles Homer and Alice
Virginia Lasher Sherick.
Mrs. Fariss was a dedicated homemaker and a member of the St.
Peters Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Lewis Fariss of Coffeeville;
a son, James Walter Lewis Fariss of Coffeeville; four sisters, Donna Marques of Willow
Grove, Pa., Charolette Brown of Feasterville, Pa., Tina Makarawiz of Quakertown, Pa., and
Penny Henry of Bristol, Pa.; and a brother, Rick Sherick of Mobley, Mo.

Dona Virginia Marascalco, 94, of Grenada, died Thursday, March 4,
2010, at Graceland in Grenada. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday,
March 5, at National Funeral Home in Grenada. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, March 6, at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Grenada. Burial followed in
Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.
Ms. Dona was born on April 17, 1915, in Grenada to Charles and
Sarah Marascalco. She was a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church. Dona was office
manager and dental assistant to Dr. S.A. Marascalco for 45 years. She was President of
Arizona Dental Association of Dental Assistants of Arizona. Dona was a dedicated Mom for
her brothers and sisters as they grew up, and a dedicated Aunt for all of the second
generation Marascalcos in America.
Dona was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Sarah
Marascalco; a brother, Joe Marascalco; and two sisters, Rose Portera and Mary Portera.
Survivors include one sister, Louise Hebron of Indianola, Iowa;
four brothers, Mellow Joseph Bone Marascalco and Dr. John Marascalco, both of
Grenada, Dr. Frank Marascalco of Clarksdale and Dr. Sam Marascalco of Tucson, Ariz.

David R. Shiver
David R. Shiver Sr., 79, of Coffeeville, died Tuesday, Oct. 13,
2009, at his residence. He was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Camilla, Ga., to James Tyre and
Mallie Posey Shiver. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Grenada.
Having over 33 years of service to his country, Mr. Shiver retired
as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army earning a Bronze Star during his service. After
retirement from the Army he continued his work for his country working for the United
States Civil Service and the Federal Aviation Administration. He also worked with the U.S.
Army Intelligence and Security Commission. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both
hunting and fishing. Mr. Shiver also enjoyed being a civil war re-enactor. He enjoyed
spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will
sorely miss him.
Funeral services are Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St.
Peters Catholic Church with Father Martin Ruane officiating. Interment with full
military rites will follow at Coffeeville Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, Oct. 15,
2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home in Coffeeville.
Mr. Shiver is survived by his wife, Olga O. Shiver of Coffeeville;
four daughters, Doris Duran of Albuquerque, N.M., Linda E. Geeslin of Coldwater, Margareta
H. Dotson of Coffeeville, and Yvonne K. Shiver of Gore Springs; eight grandchildren; nine
great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Bush of Blakely, Ga.; and one brother, Earl
Shiver of San Jose, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mose
and Jack Shiver.

Mrs. Dyre was a homemaker, as well as, having worked with the Grenada School District, Defenbaugh Finance and Dyre's Prescription Shop. During World War II, Mrs. Dyre worked in Washington, DC for the government prior to her marriage to the late Lowrey White Dyre of Kilmichael, MS. Mrs. Dyre was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Mrs. Dyre was a lifetime member of the Grenada Jr. Auxiliary and previously belonged to the Grenada Country Club's Ladies Golf Association. Mrs. Dyre is survived by five children, Barbara Fuller of Grenada, Mary Cathryn Hammac of Ridgeland, Teresa Dear of Grenada, Anne (Val) Soldevila of Clarksdale, and Tommy (Lisa) Dyre of Duck Hill. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Michaels of St. Paul, MN; a brother, Bud Hargarten of Crystal, MN, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Monday, June 29, 2009, conducted by Father Martin Ruane, pastor. Darryl Wayne Necaise, 59, of Coffeeville,
passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at his home. He was a Catholic and a retired truck
driver.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at St. Peters Catholic Church
in Grenada at 11 a.m. with Father Martin Ruane officiating. Interment will follow in
the Broom Cemetery in Coffeeville. Visitation will be held this evening from 6 to 9 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Necaise; a daughter, Shelia Necaise McDaniel (Randy) of

Joseph Theis, 93, passed away on the morning of Saturday, July 12, 2008, at
Graceland. In memoriam, a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 am Friday,
July 18, 2008, at Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Grenada.
Born in Catasauqua, PA on December 14, 1914 to the late John and Anna Theis, Henry grew up
in the Detroit Michigan area. Like many young men of his generation, he started life on
the farm, joined the Civilian Conservation Corps after high school and then found work in
the automobile industry. In 1936, Henry began working for Lyon Inc. That same year he met
Mary Kominick who became his wife four years later. Mr. Theis was part of the management
team that moved to Grenada when Lyon opened a new plant in 1962. Henry rose to the
position of plant manager before retiring in 1977. He and Mary continued to live a full
life in retirement. They traveled extensively but always felt the most comfortable at
their home in Grenada. Henry's kindness, generosity and sense of humor will be missed by
all. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Mr. Theis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include: his son, Gary and his wife, Peggy of Madison MS; daughter, Gale Trinity
and her husband, Frank of Sterling Hts. MI; sister, Kathryn Martin of Murphy, NC; four
grandchildren, Sharon Kutschman, Sandra Haroutunian, Lee Savalle, and Lynn Socha; and nine
great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sevenia Adams and Azemie Monceaux; her brother, Alton Adams; her sisters, Hazel Leleux and Emay Stelly; and her son, Charles Adams Marascalco. Survivors include her husband, John Andrew Marascalco, MD; two daughters, Denise Marascalco Hinkle and her husband Robert of Hernando and Renee Marascalco of Fayetteville, Ariz.; two sons, Ben Andrew Marascalco of Cleveland, and John Andrew Marascalco, Jr. of Ocean Springs; and two sisters, Mable Saltzman, Grove, Texas and Estelle Adams, of Crowley, La. Mrs. Marascalco also leaves behind five grandchildren, Eastin Jordan, Emilie Hines, Corbett Hinkle, Justine Hinkle, and David Hinkle, all of whom think they are her favorite. Lenora was born in Crowley, Louisiana. She attended Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, La., where she obtained her degree in Registered Nursing. She was married to John A. Marascalco, MD for 51 years, and they raised five children together. She was passionate about her faith and her family, and had a great love for gardening, reading, and playing Bridge. Lenora and John settled in Greenville, early in their marriage, where they lived for over 30 years. She was an active communicate of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a member of the Washington County Medical Auxiliary, past President of the Women's Organization, past President of the Coterie Club (1984-85), past President of the Colonial Garden Club (1970-71), and an active member in Greenville Bridge clubs. After moving to Grenada in 1996, she was an active member and past President of the Grenada Garden Club, an active member of the New Century Book Club, and active in several Grenada Bridge clubs. Mrs. Marascalco was an active communicate of St. Peters Catholic Church and was involved in all its activities. She will be greatly missed, especially by those who knew her as Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. Elizabeth Daly, 94, Anna Elizabeth Dear
Daly passed away peacefully on June 19, 2007 at her home in Grenada. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Patrick Rush Daly and a daughter, Helen Hailey.
Survivors include: four daughters, Patricia Kelley of Nashville, TN, Mary Daly of Grenada,
Dorothy Spencer and her husband, Ed Spencer of Jackson, Kathy Baker and her husband, Davis
Baker of Columbus; two sons, John B. Daly and Bill Daly and his wife, Sharon, all of
Grenada; a brother, Frederick Dear and his wife, Alethia of Jackson; a sister, Mozelle
Atkinson of Houston, TX. Mrs. Daly also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 19
great-grandchildren all of whom think they are her favorite.
Elizabeth, born August, 8, 1912 was raised in Enterprise, Mississippi. She attended
Mid-South Business College in Meridian. A housewife and mother of seven, she was active in
her children's activities, PTA, and Band Boosters. She was selected as Grenada's Mother of
the Year in 1961 and was recognized in 1996 by the Grenada Lake Medical Center as a
founding member of the Hospital Auxiliary and for accumulating the most volunteer hours.
She was a member of The Iris Club and a lifetime member of NARFE.
Mrs. Daly was an active communicate of St. Peters Catholic Church and was involved in all
its activities while she was physically able.

of the Rosary at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church at

Mary Theis, 89, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Grenada Lake Medical

Saint Peters Catholic Church.
Born June 27, 1917 to the late Frances and Anthony Kominek, she adopted Grenada as her
home in 1962 after moving from Detroit, Mich. Mary was a devoted wife and mother who
always placed her family's needs above her own. She was also a dedicated animal lover.
Mary enjoyed cooking and happily spent much of her time in the kitchen. She loved to read
and learn about different places, people and points of view. Later in life she and her
husband traveled extensively across the country. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic
Church. Mary was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Theis was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Kominek.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Henry; son, Gary Theis and his wife Peggy of
Madison, Miss.; daughter, Gale Trinity and her husband Frank of Sterling Hts, Mich.; one
sister, Toni Kaminiski of Livonia, Mich.; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
